Departments
I would like to thank the village residents, business owners, and everyone else that atended the police chief's appointment ceremony. I sincerely appreciate all the support and warm welcomes that were conveyed to me. I hope to encounter more of the village residents in the coming months and encourage those of you that have immediate concerns to please stop at or contact our office. I wish to express to the village my intentions of making the police department a more community oriented service. I would like to see the "resident & police officer" relationship become positive and beneficial to all, in hopes of increasing crime prevention and encouraging the sharing of information. As public servants it is our obligation to meet the law enforcement needs of the village in the most professional manner possible, treating those we encounter with courtesy and respect. I would ask in return that the members of the New York Mills Police Department be treated with respect and that you keep an understanding that an officer's job is not only dangerous at times but must be performed thoroughly and with great attention to detail. Please be patient with my efforts to improve the law enforcement services within our village and I welcome and encourage any input from the community. I look forward to a long and dedicated service to the Village of New York Mills and hope to keep our village a safe and peaceful place to live.
Thank you.
Chief Robert Swenszkowski
Crime prevention & safety tips:
911 is for immediate help, do not hesitate to call if you feel you are in need of police or medical assistance or if you witness an event you feel needs police attention. People often contact us days or weeks after they see suspicious activities which makes investigating potential crimes difficult. Please, if you feel something is "out of place" or witness a crime, contact us immediately.
Be cautious of giving any personal information to anyone, whether by mail, over the phone, computer, or to persons that may approach your home. Numerous "scams" are prevalent today and be aware people going door to door in the village offering any services must have a permit issued by the village to do so. If you encounter these situations please contact our office.
Be aware of children, joggers, walkers, and bicyclists, as these individuals are on our village streets all hours of the day. Please drive responsibly and obey all traffic laws to ensure everyone's safety.
Keep homes and vehicles locked when unattended.
