 Commentary

In most instances, traffic violations should be charged under the pertinent sections of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. For example, speed restrictions pursuant to  1180(d); standing, stopping and parking restrictions pursuant to  1200, 1202 and 1203; and truck exclusions pursuant to  1110(a).

Procedures for entering pleas by mail, warning of effect of plea and effect of stay order from judgment of conviction of traffic infractions are now covered by new  1805 through 1808 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law, effective September 1, 1971.

The penalties to be imposed, except for parking meter violations, are those as set forth in  1800, 1801 and Subdivision (f) of  1180. The disposition of fines is prescribed in  1803.
